About New to Gaming

A free guide for adults who are new to video games, and for the people who buy games for them.

What we do

We help with three things: which console to buy, which game to start with, and whether you are ready for a big game you have heard about. Every game has a beginner level from 1 to 5, and a separate Tried & tested score. See how we rate.

What we do not do

You do not need an account. We do not ask for your email to see results. Ratings are not for sale. If we add shopping links that pay us a commission, we will label them and keep them out of the rankings.

Drafts and corrections

Beginner ratings are drafts that a person is reviewing. Prices are in US dollars and checked in October 2026. If something is wrong, tell us and we will fix it.
